The Manjappally Plantation Bungalow is a 125 year old heritage building that has been awarded the Grihasthali Award by the Tourism Department of Kerala. The bungalow was constructed during the British rule by the enterprising Mr. K.V. Joseph Pottamkulam. Kanjirappally was, during those days, a thickly forested area with little human habitation, and Mr. K.V. Joseph had to oversee the construction of the bungalow living in a makeshift tree house. Mr. K. J. Varkey, the son of Mr. K.V. Joseph carried on the development of his father by bringing in efficient management practices to the running of the estate, post-independence. Today, Mr. K. J. Varkey's son Mr. George Varghese Pottamkulam and his wife Rosamma reside at the bungalow.
